Nancy's French Toast

Servings: 8 slices of bread (16 triangles)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  1. Beat egg, milk and vanilla.  Add dry ingredients.  Beat until smooth.  Dip 1/2 slices of bread in batter.  Fry in very hot deep fat.  Drain on paper towels.  Use plenty of oil to fry in.  (Best to use store bought bread for this one--like Wonder bread)  Serve with Corn syrup or regular syrup and jams.

    Note:  We first had this at my Dad's cousin's home in California (Nancy Manning).  She didn't have any maple syrup and so offered us the corn syrup instead.  We all loved it and thought that was the best way to eat it.
