Grandma Free's Hamburger Pie

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 2-3 ribs celery, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups carrots, chopped
  • 2 cups potatoes, chopped
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can Cream of Chicken soup
  • salt and pepper to taste
Pie Crust
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup cold water
Instructions
  1. Saute in butter the celery and onion.  Add hamburger and brown.  Place chopped carrots and potatoes in a 9 x 13 in. pan.  Salt and pepper to taste.  pour soups over and mix.  Add hamburger.  Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 45 min. to 1 hour.  Uncover and grate cheese on top.  Add pie crust to top and bake 20 to30 min. more.  Can broil for the last few minutes if not browning enough.

Crust
  1. Cut shortening into flour and salt.  Add liquids.  Roll out into a rectangle and place on top of cooked veg/meat sprinkled with cheese.  Cut slits in crust before placing back into the oven.
