- 1 cup lukewarm milk (about 100 degrees)
- 2 1/2 tsp active dry yeast (or instant yeast)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 3 cups flour
- oil spray
- 6 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 Tbsp hot water
-
In a stand mixer with the dough hook, gently stir together lukewarm milk, 1 tsp of sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
-
Add sugar, salt, egg, melted butter, and 2 cups of flour. Mix on low until combined, then with the mixer running add the remaining cup of flour slowly, until the dough no longer sticks to the bowl.
-
Increase speed to medium-low and knead for 5 minutes. The dough should be elastic and smooth.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size.
-
Place the dough on a floured surface, punch it down, and gently roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
-
Cut out donuts.
-
Transfer the donuts and donut holes to parchment paper and cover loosely with greased plastic wrap. Let the donuts rise until doubled (about 30 minutes).
-
With the air fryer preheated to 350 degrees, spray the basket with oil spray and carefully transfer the donuts to the air fryer in a single layer. Spray donuts and cook until golden brown (about 4 minutes). Repeat with the remaining donuts.
-
For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in hot water 1 Tbsp at a time. The glaze should be thin, but not watery.
-
Dip donuts in the glaze and then place them on a wire rack to let the glaze cool and harden.
-
Enjoy!
