This is a recipe full of memories and comfort food. Grandma Free use to pop up some popcorn in her pan then pour it into a big metal oblong pan and pour in the hot carmel, stir it up, and dump it out onto wax paper. We would gather around and eat it right then. This is best eaten warm.

Delicious warm carmel popcorn

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Keyword: popcorn
Servings: 6 people
Ingredients
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cube butter
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup
Instructions
  1. pop two bags of microwave popcorn ( or otherwise pop popcorn)

  2. cut up the butter and put in a saucepan, add the corn syrup and the brown sugar

  3. cook on med-high stirring until is starts to boil and all the sugar has dissolved

  4. remove all the un-popped kernels from the corn. I put a cooling rack over the top of the bowl and shake it over the garbage. No one likes a hard kernel in their warm soft carmel corn.

  5. put the corn in a large bowl and pour the carmel mixture over the top in a little stream to spread it out. Then stir the popcorn well, pulling up the carmel on the bottom until the corn is all covered and there are no puddles of carmel in the bottom of the pan.

  6. pull out a couple of sheets of wax paper and put on the table. Dump out the corn and spread it out a bit and eat as soon as it is cool enough for you.
